getting help helping your loved ones

When you have an elderly or special needs person living in your home, your days can seem to go on forever. Even though the days feel long, you feel that there simply aren't enough hours in the day to take care of everything you need to in a 24 hour period and have time left to take care of yourself. It is easy to run yourself ragged when you have someone depending on you. One thing I found to be my saving grace is the home care service that I hired to help me with my husband. Find out what a home care service can do to help you through these difficult days here on my blog.

4 Ways Home Health Care Helps Elderly Widows

Home health assistance professionals have the ability to perform healthcare-related tasks, but their capabilities do not stop there. These professionals can offer so much more. If you have a parent or elderly loved one that recently lost their spouse, hiring one of these professionals is a great way to ensure they get the care they need. Learn how home health assistance can help in this situation.

1. Companionship

For a couple that has been married for decades, the death of a spouse can leave them in a state of utter loneliness, especially if they live alone. While a spouse cannot be replaced, having a home health care professional come into the home daily or several times a week provides an excellent source of companionship. Whether the aid sits and talks with your loved one or gives them company as they watch their favorite television show, simply having someone there helps your loved one realize they are not alone.

2. Personal Care Assistance

As your parent or loved one ages, taking care of their daily needs, such as personal grooming, can become more laborious. Combine this along with the sadness or depression that can set in after the death of a spouse, and your loved one may have less energy to take care of themselves. These professionals help with bathing, using the restroom, shaving, and other grooming needs. They will provide you with the confidence that your loved one is being taken care of.

3. Healthcare Reminders

It is also not uncommon for the health of the remaining spouse to decline after the passing of a spouse, which is the last thing you want to happen. Again, a home health care assistant can help in this area too. These individuals can help with administering medication. If your loved one needs exercise, they can also help with this activity. Additionally, if they need help with making their doctor's appointments, these professionals can also assist with transportation services.

4. Light Housekeeping

These professionals are also able to provide light housekeeping services. Washing the dishes, helping with laundry, making the bed, and even helping with meal preparation are just some of the housekeeping tasks they can help with. The more your loved one is able to focus on moving forward with their life with as little stress as possible, the better.

Home health care workers are trusted professionals. Do your research and contact a home health agency in your area for further assistance, like A Nurse's Touch Healthcare Inc.
